adults were reading it before she even mentioned him being gay, she didn't need any extra exposure. Maybe she said it because thats how she wrote his character?
you dont have to say the sun is hot, you know it already, the same with him being gay, it's so obvious that saying it would be like saying: hey, did you now water is wet? :O hehe
