Nancy Bevilaqua I've already probably written WAY too much about Kerouac in these Goodreads discussions, but what you've said here, Raquel, is so true and relevant. And I have to say that, as a writer, this thread is kind of comforting to me. If I get a bad review on my own book, I can simply tell myself that there are actually people in the world who think of On the Road as a "boring" book, and who believe that Kerouac wasn't much of a writer. As far as I'm concerned, Kerouac had (to use a well-worn cliche) more talent in his little finger than I (or the majority of other writers) have, and I'm certainly not comparing myself to him in any way. But at least I know that it is possible for a book, and a writer, that I consider brilliant and beautiful to be dismissed and dissed by others (and there really is nothing wrong with that--we all bring different things to different works, and will be affected differently as a result)).
