I completely agree with you.
Why did the author finish the book with a baby ? Is is mandatory for a happy ending??
I think it had to do with his letter he left her, it was just a way of making all of those things she was going to be doing without him now happen with him.
I HATE to be a downer but I have a strong feeling that the baby won't be around in #2. I *feel* it is the tragedy that makes her "numb".

This was my thought too. Having well-off parents is all good, but they aren't self-sufficient. That just didn't sit well with me, I guess. Of course, Andrew's health did cause them put things on hold but a couple can't exactly travel the world going from job to job with a child.
