Cassie Straight men read Twilight all the time. That's a really shallow statement.

Cassie Like "Only men and lesbians read Lord of the rings"

Peter Boland Yeah, I agree. I'm straight and I really enjoyed Twilight and the rest of the books

Samantha The Escapist Hah not meaning to be narrow minded or shallow but it just seemed to me that the only appeal of the story was in wish fulfillment, since the wishs presented and fulfilled in the novel seem to be based entirely about a girl having two attractive boys at her beck and call it seemed unlikely for it to appeal to anyone aside from a straight female who dreamt of this scenario.

Of course I know that lots of people read the books and enjoy them as a storyline but it seems like these are also the people who are unlikely to be influenced by the story so they're escentially exempt from what I said.

I'm not going to pretend that I wasn't exagerrating and being harsh on the story in my statement of course, though I definitely did not mean it in so cut-and-dry a way as it seemed. Pete, I am not trying to insult you for liking the series.

Also Cassie, I have never said any such thing about LOTR but I'm laughing my ass off right now because after reading that i counted and I actually know several people who have finished (and loved) the whole series and they all happen to be male or at least bisexual. Not trying to say I actually think that about LOTR (nor have I ever heard anyone say it before)

Peter Boland Thing is, the wonderful thing about books is people get different things out of them, and interpret them in different ways. I read it less for the romance and more for the mythology created in the books. But equally I don't see anything wrong with reading a book for 'wish fulfilment'. Hell, I watched the new James Bond movie last night, (which is terrific) but you could argue that that's just about male wish fulfilment - like taking a bath in testosterone, as someone described it. But it wasn't just men watching it. It was roughly 50:50 men and women in the audience. ; )
