Interesting question. Twilight appeals to both young teens an their middle-aged mums. Young teens for the most part haven't had a real relationship. They've had lots of crushes. Twilight fits into that. Edward is perfect like no other boy. And he so loves Bella that he doesn't want to Turn her; read, he won't try to get her to have sex with him. So Twilight is a pure fantasy of early teen romance. As to the mums, they may harbor the wish that their daughters can have such a magical romance without any of the pitfalls: never breaking up, never going through periods of multiple relationships that don't quite work out, never hooking up. Maybe the mums themselves wish they could somehow have been that pure. Or maybe they're just tired of their husbands watching the NFL while they drink six packs, and dream of the days of their girlhood, when it was all new.
I guesse mums would want to go back to a simpler time, when the biggest thing on their mind was who they had a crush on and the'r first romance. yes, think girls in this age group want the 'perfect' romance, and with boys not maturing the same rate as girls do, i think girls dream of men/boys that are mature, like 'edward'
