Monty J Heying I think you've nailed it. Couldn't agree more. It's a waste of time for most people under the age of 30, but the book industry, in it's warped wisdom, has this rule that books about teenagers are for teenagers. Therefore they market them to schools in this way. Perhaps the English departments need to be less passive about swallowing what they're fed by the book peddlers.

Mary Timbes And unfortunately probably many of the English teachers who assign the book don't really understand it either. It's a complex little gem, but if you don't speak its language you may well take home some message that isn't there.

Katy I agree. I did not connect with this book in high school when I read it but reread in my middle twenties and 'got it'.
