Rachel The fact that child abuse "happens everywhere in the world" does not validate this particular individual's story, or make it any more likely as to being true

Fiona It shocks me that so many people blithely INvalidate a story that must have been excruciating to tell. Survivors of child abuse often have no 'proof' and often have their entire families (or what is left of them) deny the truth - because they aren't exactly going to get out there and agree to being the horrible abusive shits they are, are they?
I can tell you this stuff happens. Worse than this happens - and kids survive. Some kids are more resilient than others, some are just plain lucky. I'm one of the lucky ones. Or unlucky, depending how you see living through the hell that is C-PTSD and trying to piece a life together from the rubble.

Rachel I 100% believe that "this stuff happens". What I don't believe is that this stuff happened to this particular individual - even his publishers have admitted that he has lied (Pelzer has claimed his book was nominated for the Pulitzer prize. His publishers openly admit this is untrue and his books have not even come close to any such thing.) When you start telling ridiculously egotistical, and easily disprovable lies like that, that's when everything else you say has to be taken with a grain of salt.

His publisher submitted his book twice for the Pulitzer, but that is not a nomination, no.
