It does seem really daunting to begin with, but I decided to go ahead anyway. What I'm doing is reading one WoT book a month (I can go through one in about 10 days), and then read other stuff in the middle. This way, I don't get burnt out, and I've got it timed so that I finish the 13th book the month that the 14th comes out, so I am not going to have to wait to read the finale. The first three books make a kind of mini series by themselves, so maybe you could read them and then decide?
