Bingo.. you nailed it. Cute idea, crappy outcome.
It just seemed like lazy writing to me. I spent too time trying to figure out a satisfying pronunciation that didn't sound like word vomit. I ended up just skimming her name as Rene.
I pronounce it Re-nes-mii but Kristen(just below) says its pronounced that way so I'm just confused.
Honestly it reminded my of random celebrities who name their kids stupid things that would get normal kids beat up
