Yeah definitely check out Margaret Atwood's books. You're running into so many teen characters because you're reading Young Adult books. I don't mind the teenage characters, but if you want to stay away from them, you have to get out of the YA fiction section.
Definitely check out Oryx and Crake for a dystopian novel featuring older characters as well as the Year of the Flood. Both are good books.
