Hoda Marmar Yes, it is most likely PTSD, because he had blocked out memories due to traumatic molestation from the aunt that he has loved. Anxiety is also very prominent is his behavior. I found he was a very believable character.

Imogen Smith I agree with you but you are completely wrong about aspergers. Read up on it before you say things like that they may not seem hurtful but they are.

message 3: by Yadira (new)

Yadira I believe Charlie has dissociative amnesia

message 4: by Faith (new)

Faith My daughter has aspergers and she really related to Charlie - he does present that way.

Jose Carneiro He doesn't have any form of autism. He does show symptoms of PTSD and anxiety disorder but suppressing thoughts is something that is common for someone with a mental disorder. I think he is bipolar because of how he thinks and how he could easily snap. FYI a bipolar person's mood just doesn't change from one second to the next it cycles with periods of normality. The depression and guilt usually lasts longer than the mania and impulsiveness.

message 6: by Joe (new)

Joe Ramirez His symptoms are more aligned with PTSD. One criteria for the fulfillment of DA is that it is not better explained by PTSD or other disorders.

He also may have symptoms of someone on the spectrum, but he does not fulfill the criteria necessary for a diagnosis in Aspergers.

Maria Asperger's syndrome doesn't mean that they can't read emotion or differentiate between tones. I should know because my brother has Asperger's.

message 8: by Harriet (new)

Harriet Jones I relate to Charlie in varying ways very much and I have Aspergers. However, I'm not going to stick my neck out and say that that's what the character has because I don't think the author meant him to have Autism/Aspergers but reading people is something some people with Aspergers have the ability to do.

To me, I assume he has PTSD, Depression and Social Anxiety (the latter two I also have), what I call 'Selective Amnesia' and then, possibly Aspergers too. He also seems to be an Altruistic Empath.
