Shanon, I would've said the same thing if I hadn't read The Day of the Jackal and The Spy who came in from the cold (which I didn't like earlier, but loved it later). I don't think it's the genre. Like you said, may be Follet takes thrillers lightly. And he shows master class when writing historical Novels.
