message 1: by Rhiannon (new)

Rhiannon Thank you all for taking the time to reply to my dilema. I hate to not finish a book it's almost a compulsion. I've only ever dropped 2 books after starting the first page, the davinci code and Shiver, but there was something about Mists that I just didn't want to give up on, so have kept it on the bookshelf all this time. My mum is a massive fan of this book and said she was reading it when she was pregnant with me, so part of me really wants to finish this book and enjoy it. It's not that i don't like the book, the first half I read was quite enjoyable. It's just so long, and after 400 odd pages I felt I deserved a break. i'm still undecided. I may give it one more try or even read a 100 pages in between books just to break it up a bit. The actual thought of putting it on my swap list or giving it away before I finish it actually makes me quite queazy :S

Jaye Latts Then, instead of giving up, keep it around and it might pique your interest later. You could re-start it when you feel the story is right/of interest to you.

Rhiannon Restarting is more than I can bare i think. But I'm leaning more to keeping it for a bit longer and seeing how I feel x

Rebecca you could try to pick up where you left off but i have to agree, while i loved it and have read it more than once, if it doesn't captivate you, then maybe it's just not for you?

Old-Barbarossa Why not scan the bits you've read before with a beverage of your choice over a lazy afternoon/evening(tea/coffee/mead) and then decide if you want to continue. I found I had to force my way through it at times...it made me angry in parts. Having said that...to each their own. Best of luck whatever you decide.

Aaron Carson I also hate to leave a book unfinished. For what it's worth, The Silmaralian took me several tries, and I did enjoy it it the end. I did falter once through The Mists of Avalon on the first go. I like Old Barbarossa's idea of just sort of easing yourself into it like a warm bath. Now I'm going to take my own advice and try to get through Porius again.
