I totally agree, it's the best version because of all the reasons you listed. Love it!
Oh I still want to see that movie really bad. When it was in theatres, it wasn't anywhere near my house. I'm sure I could buy it by now.. haha
I liked the new one also, except for the ending. The end of the novel is my favorite part, and the movie's ending far to abrupt for my taste.
I actually didn't like the new one as much as I like the one with Ciran Hand. The trailer was really good and there are great actors, but it seemed a little slow to me.
I think I may be in the minority here as I really didn't like the latest adaptation. I left the cinema feeling like i'd been beaten with a stick for 2 hours. It just brought me down and that's not what Jane Eyre is about! The ending was also depressing. It seemed like they were content to just be miserable together. I've only watched it once and my dislike for it such that I feel I should watch it again to make sure I wasn't just prejudiced against it.
As Jenna mentions above, I really like the Ciaran Hinds version. Perhaps not as faithful (it's been a while since I watched it) but it has a passion about it that seemed lacking from the new one. Also, the ending did indeed feel like 2 people who loved eachother, finally getting to be together.
I agree with you Elaine, and I also find I'm in the minority. So many people like the new one... Me, my sister, mother and two of my friends are the only ones I know didn't like the newer one. I just felt it was so much less passionate. It had less over-all true "feeling" to it. I just wish they had been more in love, more passionate... and there were other things I didn't like, that was just my major problem.
