Peter Fryer Hi, I'm new to Goodreads, so if I talk out of turn, please zap me! Interesting that this question sits alongside "Angels & Demons", so it has a kind of ethical/morality implication. The best book I have ever read lifted my heart and made feel good to be alive - it's ancient, published in 1936 or so and probably out of print: "Island Trails" by Theodore Stephanides, who was tutor to Gerald Durrell as a child in Corfu. It's a voyage from one Greek island to another, with all the head issues that happened along the way. Not fiction, but not exactly fact either. A lucky find in a forgotten bookshop, and a treasured experience.

Betty I had a similar experience when I read Green Mansions as a child. It, at least was my first 'best book'.

Matt The Potter series truly has this generation figured out. It was 8 movies just waiting to be made. The pace is quick...it doesn't let you get bogged down. This generation requires that and Rowling figured it out. Nice work
