Yes, try again. The real strength of the books comes from the outside view of our society and with the switching dynamics of good and evil throughout the series. It never takes the easy evil. I definitely think you should give it another chance.

Don't try it again. You'll waste precious hours of your life slogging through that drivel.
I liked the first book well enough, but the second one was basically just a repeat of the first book. I prefer Westerfeld's Leviathan series - better characters, better plots, and the accompanying illustrations are fantastic.
