this is by far the most reasoned and balanced response I've seen so far
You are very mature. It is a great response that shows why we should not censor books if a teenager is prepared to read it. I think most teens, and most people actually, would put down a book if they felt it was too strong or disturbing for them.
Also, I do find it interesting how the relationships are depicted. While both main characters sleep around, there's also this sense where they are still not completely satisfied and want to find more, so it's not as though it's putting down love either.
I don't have a daughter of any age, but my mom let me read whatever I wanted when I was a kid. I've been reading ever since and learned there were kinds of books I would love and some I wouldn't
It's funny, though, that I never thought anything about the relationships. So Salander is bisexual or Mikael sleeps around, who cares? They are not hurting anyone. Besides, they are only characters and it happens in real life, too.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend the book (if I had liked it in the first place) to someone who isn't maybe 14 or 15 but if someone wants to read it, then it's their decision. I would have preferred that the violence hadn't been told so descriptively and that might be a problem to many, children and adults alike, but not the consensual sex!
