In the end we have to look at how well the book has done, as it is doing very very well I would say that more people agree the book is good rather than bad, time will tell if this series can last but I have a good feeling it will.
A balloon is rising at the rate of 5ft/s. A boy is cycling along a straight road at a speed of 15ft/s.when he passes under the balloon it is 45 ft above him.
How fast is the distance between the balloon and the boy increasing 3 seconds later
The "y = 45" you should write as y(0) = 45 since y is really a function. In the equation you have last, 2s ds/dt = 2x dx/dt + 2y dy/dt, you have all the information you need. You can find s, x, and y by simple algebra and geometry, and you already know dx/dt and dy/dt.
Gee whilikers! Wasn't that interesting! no. stop complaining and read the next book.
Ha! I like the Gee Whilikers. I realize this book isn't for everybody. And Calculus is so not interesting. I really had high hope hopes for the book but was very disappointed.
It's a testament to the different tastes we as readers have, a compliment to the authors' and readers' imaginations and overlap thereof (in reality, represented as book sales). Although I don't agree with the praise of Sanderson, I respect the differences of opinion.
Robert, I could so how you would not love this book (parts of it do move a little slow), but to denounce it like this seems a little irrational. The book was filled with gripping emotional seens and epic action scenes, and the climax was simply mind-blowing.
