Proposals get broken all the time. But I don't think she's going to leave Jem, they're both too loyal for that.
You don't marry someone out of pitty for them because their life has been so hard. That would just be wrong. She loves Jem, but not like she LOVES Will.

Agree. tessa loves Jem like a friend and don't want to see him hurt. but she is in love with Will. The only reason she did not break off the engagement is because she does not want to damage Jem and Will's friendship.
