Agreed; brutal, self-rightgeous, narcisstic a-holes...but worth the time because of the deft story telling...whoda thunk that centuries later Pat Benatar would turn it into a haunting love ballad?!?!
power through, power through, power through. i read it in one long day (for a high school test--procrastinated)and I had to power through and loved it. maybe try getting through a lot of the beginning on a lazy sunday.
