I agree the ending is perfect. I just didn't expect it because I was not familiar with the writings of Steinbeck. The book's ending is still vivid in my mind followed by the reason for the ending. Excellent story telling.

Duane OH, fuck - TOKYO, *AGAIN*??? Can't it destroy SOMETHING else for a change???

Actually though you gave me another idea. Have you seen "Heavy Metal"? That "Pearl" would totally belong as an episode of the Mysterious Glowing Orb, doncha think?

Laura Herzlos I want to see that movie!

message 5: by Duane (new)

Duane Which one - "Heavy Metal", or "Pearlzilla"?

message 6: by Laura (new)

Laura Herzlos Oh I thought you were proposing a mash-up. It can even be animated. I can almost hear Danny Elfman's music in the background. Even without that, I'd watch it. I wouldn't pay, but I'd illegally download the heck out of it.

Duane Oh, for sure - Actually, considering how "Heavy Metal" is assembled out of a series of episodes, there is *nothing* to stop anyone from creating more episodes, TV serial style - including a "Pearlzilla" one... Which you could then unscrupulously bootleg forthwith.

YEAH... Kino dredges up the Mysterious Glowing Orb and takes it home, and is going to sell it to the pearl dealer, but it *hatches* and devours him, his wife and child, and the entire village, and then a big chunk of Messico, after which is swims to... where? (Tradition dictates that Tokyo is a required victim at some point, of course...).

message 8: by Laura (new)

Laura Herzlos Nah, I was thinking more in the lines of Kino going on a long quest through the mountains to gather the remaining 6 pearls to summon Shen Long, who is naturally in Tokyo, but can be hurled to Mexico by the power of the orb in exchange for sexual favors.

Duane That's not going to work... Tokyo absolutely HAS to be destroyed in order to license the media in Japan.

However... Assuming we could find a way to educate Kino to the fact that what he's found is not a mere Pearl, but One of Seven and must go on a quest for the other Six, we could easily insist that the *last* of the Six is hidden beneath a mysterious shrine in Kyoto, which when Kino unites the Seven causes Shenron to burst forth and promptly go on a rampage and devastate Tokyo.

(Do you REALLY think Shenron is going to want to have sex with Kino, though? He'll probably just make a brunch snack out of him, like, instantly... He'll be REALLY hungry after being confined by the shrine for centuries, you know... .)

Bear in mind though, that if we go this route, there will be SEVEN episodes you'll have to bootleg, not just one...

Laura Herzlos *Shrugs* Get Marvel involved, you'll have the 6 sequels in no time.
