S. Rowe I have noteced TONS of similarities just by reading reviews of other books. There was one book I picked up for a dollar about vampires and I gave it bvack it was so atrocious. The author "borrowed" well-known names from both, Anne Rice's characters, and Stephanie M's. The main character even had a diner called Bella's Place, for grief's sake. Oh, it was awful...*shudders

S. Rowe No, not a diner...a "MEXICAN RESTAURANT", called Bella's Place"...my eyes actually started to bleed. I had to quit reading after the 5th ot 6th chapter.

S. Rowe Update* i am writing a book and I dont know if it is subconscious or what but I have had to go back and change quite a bit due to literal plagiarism from other books I've read...lol, I am like whoa, I wrote that same freaking line or something like that, so I change it to something equally great...haha....one thing I will be damned if I do, (I refuse) is to use the same names from past popular novels of the same genre. I will take a week researching a name rather than take an obvious choice...for example:
Jacob, Dimitri, Ramses, Vladimir, Damon, Damian, Claudia, Victoria, Bella, Edward, Lucien, etc...there are plenty of old world vampire names out there. I've looked them up and most have been used, but I will find the ones that haven't. At least from the popular ones that I've read. If I haven't read it, oh well. That means it IS a coincidence....

Kirby #2- the book explains that they're shapeshifters, not really werewolves
#3- not all vampire legends involve fangs
#4- even what you consider the "traditional" vampires of dracula and true blood are not consistent w/ most folk beliefs about vampires
#5- I don't think that analogy works, as neither bulls nor cows are fictional
#6- I don't see why you couldn't write about any kind of phoenix that you want to
