Like in "The Native Son" by Richard Wright?
I think is about what will happen if you create life that does not have a soul. I think is a controversial book about religion.
The book doesn't really explore the topic of religion. It mentions it, an the bible as I recall plays a hand in how the creature learned to speak. Otherwise it wasn't really looked into. I believe that the creature did have a soul, though he was the sole creation of man and not God. He had emotions and thoughts...therefore he had a soul.

The Novel does not just explore religion, but the dark side of the human psyche, and the fear of what the people had about the advancement of science, they would think that Victor was meddling in something he shouldn't have. Playing God.
