I totally agree...book 17 was awful. So glad I got it from the library. I have been a Ranger fan from the start of the series. I hope Book 18 can get us back to the magic of the earlier books and finally push Stephanie in one love direction (Ranger) and finally give Stephanie the maturity and compentency that she should have by now in her career.
I don't have good expectations for book 18, I doubt that JE will or is even able to bring back the magic of the earlier books.
I agree, too. Book 17 read like JE phoned it in. It felt like it's time for Stephanie to retire from bounty hunting - or at least for JE to quit writing about her. I hope 18 is better and a grand finale. 17 was so awful, it's time for the series to end.
Susan, I think it was on JE's website but Alex has stated that there will be another Plum book in November of 2012. But, I agree with you, it is beyond time for JE to retire Stephanie Plum. It is obvious that she no longer care's about Steph and the other characters in the Plum universe.

Funny thing is, I was thinking of book 16! I haven't read 17 yet, but from the opinions I've seen, I'll skip it until I just stumble across it. I wonder if anyone's TOLD JE that it's time for Stephanie to retire??

I think JE surrounds herself with family and employee's that shield her from anything but positive reviews of her books. I don't see her retiring the series as long as she can keep a publisher. The series is her cash cow, which is another reason the love triangle has not changed.
I happened to like both 16 and 17 and plan on buying 18. I think that if Ranger ever committed to a relationship he would be there full time. However, to me it has always looked like Steph and Morelli will end up together. They understand one another, come from similar back rounds and have been fascinated with each other since they were little kids.
I do think these last few books don't have nearly the spark that put the series on the map. I think JE is spreading herself too thin but trying to write other books outside this series. I also suspect that she maybe using 'assistants' to get all the writing she does done.
I'm in for at least for a few more books maybe up to 20. JE we need more SPARK!

I think JE needs to get back with her old manager and her old ghost writer. I think that is what is messing from books 13-17.
Not a fan of 17, I felt like 18 repaired alot of damage. And I also agree, 20 should drive to a conclusion. I think it's time, or at least lets have a spin off... something needs to change
Stephanie has to decide what life she wants. At this point she is still torn between the happily ever after with Morelli and the walk on the wild side with Ranger. Morelli does not respect Stephanie's need for independenance and Ranger, for now at least, does not respect her desire for home and family. One of these guys is going to need to change in order to bring this

If you plan to read 17, which is lousy by the way, borrow it from your local library because it is not worth paying any money for.
