Yeah, that's probably one of the things that make it different. not having a fairy tale ending! Which has it's pro's and con's
A good ending. doesn't have to be a happy ending. But I don't necessarily consider the end as a good one, I like that Ms Collins still had a twist to it and the bleak end is also fairly realistic and in sync with the rest of the series. Essentially Katniss just survived her 3rd hunger game not more and not less.
It was a good ending, but I agree that when with the realistic ending, the last book, while it was good, it was as great as the first two.
True, I didn't really judge Mockingjay for another book in the series though. I tried to judge it for a book of it's own. Not just Another hunger games book. ;)
