I didn't realize until near the end of the book that Room was like a dark dungeon. We had been seeing it only through Jack's eyes, who knew nothing else. To his mother it was a nightmare. At the end I understood what she had endured and why she had problems coming back to civilization.
I didn't think Ma acted like a mother would really act after they escaped room. Isn't it maternal instinct to want to protect your child?
