Tyrone I don't think that Robert Crais would have much to say about Blood Work because he might upset Dennis Lehane.
Besides, Child didn't just walk off an bank his cheque, he publically supported the choice of Tom Cruise...that is what lost me my respect for him.
But i agree, generally you are right, once the author has signed over the rights they have little to do but spend the money.

Dawne Lee Child is doing everything he can to sell Tom Cruise to his fans because this could ultimately turn into a billion dollar franchise for him. Unfortunately, he has and will lose many of his loyal fans without whom there would't even be a movie! I am one of them!

Tyrone According to an article in telegraph, Child's deal could be worth up to $20m, depending on how well the film does. Enough maybe for him to be willing to sell out his creation and his art?

David Michael Connelly wrote Bloodwork and yes it did depart wildly from the book, even changing one of the good guys into the villain. Always like Clint though.

Tyrone Ha. Well spotted.

I like the film but consider it to be a separate entity from the book for the reasons you stated.

I do credit it, or rather the fact that Eastwood chose to direct it, with getting me to pick up the book as soon as i heard an adaptation was on the cards. Loved Michael Connellys novels ever since. :-)
