yeah-i always did read higher than my reading level, and im fast at reading too, and the teachers would never let me read into the higher leveled books so i basically did the same things you did by reading them out of school.
it is a great way to encourage kids to read at a early age, I agree with you however some events at the end of the series is quite dark for a 2nd/3rd grader
Personally, I was done with the series by 1st. So, it depends on the kid.
