message 1: by Lynn (new)

Lynn She was that sane?

message 2: by Paul (new)

Paul She did have a breakdown and attempted and eventually did burn the house down. So I guess if she had survived Bertha would have tried messing with things again with Jane back in the picture.

Lynn She intended to jump from the roof and there really was no way out. Rochester was terribly injured trying to save her. Bertha was never going to live nor did she want to.

Anna But Mr. Rochester was brave enough to try to save her. So I sorta like Mr. Rochester a little more.

message 5: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I like Rochester. He was a victim and caught in a very harsh position and used terribly. He wanted someone to love and didn't do the right thing by Anne.

Lynn Jane I mean!

message 7: by Anna (new)

Anna I don't adore Mr. Rochester but I do admire his bravery and some other characteristics of his'. Agreed?

message 8: by Lynn (new)

Lynn I don't think she was that sensible. No psychotropic medications at that time and psychosis really takes a toll on the brain.

message 9: by Anna (new)

Anna Heated discussions often lead to long arguments that never end.

message 10: by Karen (new)

Karen I didn't think the fire had started until long after Jane had been gone, but it has been a while since I read it, so I'm probably not remembering correctly.
