Yes! i agree with you... if it was in the real life, I would prefer for sure Elizabeth, even if I prefer Jane Eyre as the caracter of a novel...
You said it so well. I also admire Jane, but like Elizabeth more. What about the writing? I find them quite different and wonder what people think. I found Jane Eyre going more inside Jane’s head and therefore deeper into the emotions, where Pride and Prejudice covered more characters and therefore with less depth. I preferred the Jane Eyre writing style.
I'm in the Jane camp, but you make a good case. One of the interesting things is that Jane isn't pretty whereas Elizabeth is. That means she gave up much more when she gave up Rochester. Elizabeth wasn't sure anyone would ever love her again either, but at least she was pretty and didn't need to work for a living.
