If she's pretty well read, The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde was fun. I love Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier (and my sister read it at 13). Also, the Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqueline Winspear is a fabulous WW1 mystery series. I have heard The Scarlet Pimpernel is great, but haven't read it yet.
Well, my boy enjoyed Dan Brown's Deception point and Digital Fortress. Tess Gerristen's "Gravity" is also excellent.
