I think that with the character Edward, Austen is showing us that too much duty is almost as damaging as too little duty (such as in the character Willoughby.)
You must admit, though, that Edward is a bit of a wimp, the way he never says anything. I'm surehe's basedon someone Austen knew and she's sending him up mercilessly.
Auriel, twitterpation should be in the dictionary if it's not. I loved Emma Thompson's production of this so much that I watched it 3 times back to back and cried at the twitterpation part each time. Tho I, myself, would like to have Col. Brandon.
