OK. But if a reader can't have confidence in her version of the "truth" then how is her version valuable?
I would point to the fact that it's a memoir not a historical account. Historical accounts are about the facts and details of an event(s). Memoirs are about the emotions, memories and personal experiences of an event(s). It's why we differentiate between the two.
