According to her mother's own website, it appears Tara's account of her father's disfigurement was not embellished, or at least not much. In her own words "Faye" (Laree) says it is her miracle salve which has healed the badly scarred face. In her effort to sell her salve, the mother's own sales pitch/testimonial seems to corroborate Tara's story -- at least where that is concerned.
