Twilght is literally a fanfic of The Vampire Diaries (the books that came out in the 90s) so I don't know what you mean about it being out of the box, it's literally an amalgamation of every vampire trope that came before it.
Oh ok. I thought the Vampire Diaries came out after Twilight. Take that back Twilight was not out of the box, then.
