I can see why you think it's the families' fault. Several things were caused by the rivalry they shared. Because of all of this, the two became separated, and had a failed plan to try and get back together. I agree that if they made peace before this, both deaths could've been avoided to make a better ending for everyone.
I agree that it could be the families' fault for the death of Romeo and Juliet. If the families had resolved their feud and had made peace with each other, then so many of the fights and bloodshed could have been prevented, especially the one that got Romeo exiled. If they had just stopped holding a grudge, Romeo and Juliet could have been together without having to hide their relationship and then they wouldn't have died.
I can definitely see where you are coming from. This argument makes complete sense, where, if they had not been from warring families in the first place, they would not feel the need to rebel against their families. But, I am wondering, if they fell in love, are the fight between their families the cause? Although it is the reason why Tybalt and others died, would it matter if the two families had been at peace or war if Romeo and Juliet had loved each other to death anyways? No matter what, I feel that, if their love was so strong, Romeo and Juliet would have killed themselves had they seen the other dead.
