MR A I disagree Blair. Perhaps read more of his work. Where male characters are accused of a rape they didn't commit and then have to deal with the fallout from that for most of their life. Or where a male character fantasises about homosexual encounters. Or where the main thrust in a novel might be about the love between two women. I don't detect a gender bias with the people I know who read Murakami. It seems even to me he reaches out to all of us. If you don't get past page 50, do what Tengo does in 1Q84 and sell the book to a used book store - or in the current age on ebay or amazon.
