Although I do believe that everyone may have contributed to the death, I still think that Romeo and Juliet are at fault for the death. It was their own choice to take their life. Other characters in the play may have influenced their relationship, but the blame of their physical death is Romeo and Juliet. All the events that occurred in the play such as the feud, and the Prince banishing Romeo may have lead towards Romeo falling in love with Juliet. There love at first sight caused them to have such deep love for each other. However, in the end, the two teenagers made the decision to commit suicide.
I agree with how everyone was to blame for their death. I also don't necessarily think that it was the feud of the families that got between them, but simply the bad timing. It is more than just a mere coincidence of all of this chaos to break down while (or because) the families are feuding.
I think the main cause of Romeo and Juliet's death is Tybalt and how he is very angry. He lets his anger take over him. If he didn't get upset about Romeo attending the Capulet's party. "Fetch me my rapier, boy" After Tybalt kills Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt and that's what makes the two lovers nearly separated. This event makes Romeo not be wanted in Verona. They both make a plan and it fails. It fails by the two lovers pass away.
I agree that everyone had a part in their death in some shape or form. However, I still think that the Friar was the one who really messed things up because he carelessly executed his plan in a time when he needed to be careful.
Yes, I agree that everyone in the play are at fault. Although; Romeo and Juliet should have known better in the first place. Especially, Romeo because as a husband to Juliet, being older we would except him to know better, but his actions showed that he doesn't. I'm not saying that it's Romeo and Juliet fault but I believe that there was a possibility of them solving the conflict even though other characters also had a role in part of Romeo and Juliet's death. Instead of Juliet asking for Friar Lawrence's help alone, Romeo and Juliet should have talked to each other in the first through letters (since he was banished from Verona).
While I understand what you are getting at, all of these actions weren't the one cause of Romeo's death. If you look at it closely, the one reason all of these actions happened was because Lord Capulet and Montague had a fight. Friar Lawrence isn't at fault for coming up with the plan, because he wouldn't have had to if there was no feud. Also, it wasn't Friar John's fault for being unable to get the message to Romeo because he got quarantined. In regards to Tybalt, his death was caused by Romeo and himself because of their fight. However, the reason the fight even occurred was because of Tybalt's anger that a Montague would enter a Capulet feast. In the end, it is not everybody's fault, but rather just Capulet and Montague's. If these two never had a fight, then the rest of the events would not have occurred. This is supported by the quote, "and the continuance of their parents' rage/Which, but their children’s end, naught could remove" (Romeo and Juliet, Prologue), which shows how Montague and Capulet's fight needed a drastic consequence for it to be solved. Therefore, these two people are the root cause of Romeo and Juliet's death.
I agree with your idea, as every individual must take a small portion of the guilt in regards to their death, but these individuals would never have been involved and the errors would have never been made if the two families were to simply put aside their feud.
