I never thought of it that way. I don't remember Jude thinking that way about them. It does seem that other people in Jude's life did keep a distance from him rather than forcing necessary questions about what would help him. Do you think that Willem also only used Jude?
I too never thought of it this way and the fact that your interpretation fits breaks my heart. However, I can't seem to relate it to Malcolm or Willem? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts!
Wow.. that was your interpretation? That is the most depressing thing about this book I have read.
