I felt exactly the same way, i almost dropped the book, but a little after the middle of the book it gets much better.
I dragged myself through it, just cos I wanted to say I'd read it. Everyone has to read something by Dickens...I thought. Anyway, I was surprised that there wasn't much plot, I was expecting more of a plot, but it was all about Pip's tortured conscience and unrequited love...I liked the imagery of spooky miss Haversham in her decaying house, but all the psychological anguish was very tiring. I suppose it was quite ahead of it's time in that way, but I just found it a struggle.
