About the subjective comtemplation of art I say : There has to be some universal appeal or a set of qualities for which the piece of work is acclaimed. In which case, at a minimum level; have I grasped / appreciated these ?
I also think at a personality level, I tend to dig deeper and go beyond the obvious, to seek greater texture, flavour and richness in artistic content. And books as a medium usually are, hence the question of usage of guides.
