Salvadore's corps was behind the wall in the apartment. David finds his corps tied to a chair and that is when Marlasca reveals himself to David. Apparently Savador was the pure soul whom Marlasca used as the sacrifice. Yet again I'm confused like all the other readers as to why Marlasca wants to take Davids identity when Corelli clearly knows who is who and what he wants.

Marlasca takes others' identities to hide the fact that he is immortal - because he had the deal with Corelli. He ceases to be immortal because David took his book, Lux Aeterna, from the cemetery of forgotten books and destroyed it, thus destroying Marlasca's immortality, and perhaps his soul.
