Lynn Totally agree with your comment that a book isn't necessarily crap, its meaning simply eluded us. The Corrections was a book I liked and related to whereas others leave me wondering what was it about? (Snow by Orhan Pamuk is an example.) As you write, we all bring something different to the table which is what makes reading so great, and discussions about them so illuminating.

I can't honestly think of a book that I selected for myself that I found a disappointment. Books have been recommended to me that just weren't for me, in the end, but when I pick a book for myself, I don't find, I don't know about you, but I'm not usually thinking the book is a failure, it's just like a blind date that was a nice evening, but I'm not going to stay for dessert.
