I hear he didn't much like the name Gandalf after a while, since it was just a straight rip-off of a wandering wizard character from Norse myths. He wasn't even stuck with it at that point, though-- dude has like a thousand names, a new one for each locale!
That is really cool. I actually thought naming my pets after the characters.
