I agree with your views of the topic. You are immensely correct when you say that the books provide insight to human nature and other useful topics. Society should stop expecting kids to just magically know of dark things and that they are bad. Books just serve as a tool to teach these important lessons.
I couldn't agree with this more.
How is a child to know when something bad is happening when they have no knowledge of anything bad to base their experiences on. Far better to introduce things to them via book where you can discuss things and put them in perspective, than have them go out and get themselves into situations that they might have avoided if only they had known.
