I completely agree with you because, if 9th graders did not read book like those they would be slower to comprehend ideas that those books portray. In the authors article it says, ¨Furthermore, I don't trust that students, even seniors in high school, have the reading comprehension skills to understand anything much more complicated than the most basic young adult fiction.¨ I completely disagree with this because, it does not make sense, how would a senior in high school not be able to comprehend a book like Lord of the Flies. This also shows that you(Romeo) are correct here because 9th-12th graders should be able to read these books.
