I thought Stebbins had potential from the beginning: Stephen King likes the Quiet Ones. I interpreted the end rather literally, giving the win to Garrity, but these comments raise some good points (I haven't clicked the links). I still think Stebbins fell, if for no other reason than to put an end to his paranormal vibe. But then again, no dog ever outruns the rabbit...
