Khione But that's thing, from the start of The Firey Heart, it's from Adrian's perspective. However the whole series is based on the two of them, so it's not like Sydney to take the spotlight. As for Vampire Diaries, it's starting to do the same thing you're complaining about. Meaning repeat what's already been done. I'm a big fan of The Vampire Diaries, however, it's come to needing to finish because it seems to me that the writers are running out of ideas.

Taryn Eh, I'm still of the opinion that Bloodlines is Sydney's story with Adrian thrown in there just because Ms. Mead wanted him to get a HEA (and he's changed so much I don't even see him as Adrian anymore. Golden Lily/Indigo Spell/Fiery Heart/Silver Shadows Adrian is horrible). If it really was Adrian's story, I would have liked the entire thing from his POV and preferably the absence of Sydney and the Alchemists as a focus. (My preference and it's obviously not going to happen.)

Vampire Diaries was actually my example of what happens when things drag out too long, both the novels and the TV show. Supernatural is another good example. Everything needs a good stopping spot before it gets milked so bad everyone starts to hate it but keeps watching/reading out of loyalty.

Khione Yes but if Sydney wasn't there, he wouldn't be the same. You would be reading about a guy drowning his sorrows, who 's always depressed. You would find yourself bored, if it wasn't from Sydney, there probably wouldn't be any story and her story is inventive and interesting. Oh. I probably misunderstood your example of The Vampire Diaries. LOL. Pretty Little Liars is another example.

Taryn That's the thing, Adrian wasn't depressed in VA at all. When Rose was gone in Blood Promise, he didn't mope and drown his sorrows (granted, they weren't dating, but compare that to Sydney's claim that she was leaving at the end of Indigo Spell and Adrian proceeded to hit the bottle hard. Similar situation, two drastically different reactions. It's why I don't like Bloodlines Adrian and think he's a complete different person from Vampire Academy Adrian. Reading VA and then going to BL, if I didn't have his name and the references to previous events, I wouldn't know they were the same person.) I'm sure Ms. Mead could have come up with something amazing for Adrian post-Last Sacrifice that didn't include moping or drinking himself into a stupor instead of what we got (I've had a few ideas myself about what his story would be), she's a very creative woman and I love her stuff, even if I don't always agree with what she writes.

I didn't find Sydney's story interesting, but I bet Ms. Mead could have pulled it off in a different way that didn't involve Adrian (in fact, a lot of Adrian's involvement in the first three BL novels I find unnecessary and pointless, asking myself, "I love Adrian, but why is he here?") The bond between Jill and Adrian didn't have to happen and then he could have had his own spin-off while Sydney still had her story in a separate one. (Not to mention the dual perspectives in FH/SS bothered me. If you're going to do multiple people's perspectives, write in third person.)

I know I'm in the minority on this, but that's okay. Truth is, Bloodlines was a disappointment to me, I will never like Sydney Sage, and I'm very upset that the characterization of Adrian in Bloodlines is such a departure from Vampire Academy.

Khione It's sad that you see that. But I'm not going to change or debate about it, it's your opinion. I disagree, but eventually a character has to evolve and change.

Mariana Taryn...I totally agree with you! Adrian is unrecognizable! I could barely keep reading because of how romantic it was. Seriously, I just finished reading the series because of my love for the universe that Mead created. But the end was worst of all ... imagining Adrian as a family man. Of course we didn't want him being devoured by the spirit, but he and Sydney are so young to be put in the role of parents. Adrian could have become responsible and still have that charm and irreverence of Vampire Acedemy's books. Bloodliness was a big disappointment. I'd like to see a continuation of the story from Rose's point of view ... she's incomparable.
