Thanks to everyone for clearing this up. Boy E.L. James is going to make a ton of money by way of Twilight. I think this series just made BDSM more intriguing to the average housewife.
Since finishing the 50 shades series, I have read a better series by Tiffany Reisz who in my opinion tells a better story, uses sex for a reason, not filler, and has plenty of plot twists and turns. Her characters are like onions, you just keep peeling away the layers.

Tiffany Reisz is AWESOME! Her writing is beautiful!
