What do you mean, 'come on'? Is it news to you that he loved his wife? Is it suspicious to you that he married a woman he loved? Oh yeah we can't take that for granted, can we. Had to be some kind of smokescreen. Ri-i-i-i-ght....
People such as yourself have the noble intention of "protecting" a literary icon's reputation, while I strive to honor him by showing the truth of his work and the courage it took to honestly confront and portray the social enslavement of a repressed minority. Scott Fitzgerald's cutting edge literary heroism will one day be widely recognized, and I merely represent a growing gallery of those willing to honor him sooner rather than later.
I think they quite likely were a "swinging couple." They experimented on the fringe of social propriety, as did many of Parisianne expat art community as described by Hemingway in A Movable Feast.
Macho Hemingway was a coward compared with Fitzgerald when it came to writing about social tabu. Only in "Hills Like White Elephants" did he show a little courage in this regard, alluding to abortion as an acceptable solution to unwanted pregnancy
